What is Mako satin?

Mako satin is a high-quality cotton made from long-staple 100% Egyptian cotton. The fibers of this cotton are longer and finer than those of other types of cotton, resulting in a smoother and softer texture.

Mako satin is produced using a special weaving process called satin weaving. This special cotton is considered the highest quality cotton in the world due to its long wool threads of over 32 mm and tear-resistant properties.

The Egyptian nobleman Mako el-Orfali discovered wild cotton plants in his garden in the 19th century and, upon closer inspection, discovered their high quality, after which the cotton was processed and distributed.

The type of cotton was named after him. Mohammad Ali Pasha, who led Egypt to independence from the Ottoman Empire, had this type of cotton grown on a large scale and it became the economic symbol of Egypt and a symbol of wealth and luxury.

Today there is cultivated Mako cotton with a fiber length of over 50 mm.

The properties of the long fibers mean that it can be woven into an extremely fine and strong fabric.

Mako cotton still stands for the highest quality today. The rare raw material and the complex processing make home textiles made of Mako satin a beautiful luxury item.

To produce cotton in satin weave, it must first be combed and cleaned of foreign bodies before it is spun into yarn.

The yarn is refined with a bath of caustic soda, which further improves the properties of the cotton.

This process is called mercerization, another spelling is mercerization. At the end, the cotton yarn is silkier, stronger and easier to dye.

Woven in satin weave, a shiny surface and a matte underside are created. Mako cotton therefore only accounts for 1% of global cotton production.

This process gives the cover its characteristic shine and silky feel.

Mako satin material is more breathable and moisture-regulating than conventional satin, which leads to a more comfortable sleeping environment. Mako satin is also more durable and long-lasting than conventional satin. Therefore, Mako satin is the better choice in many cases.

Mako satin cover has a silky-smooth surface that can sometimes be perceived as slippery. However, it is not as slippery as silk satin, as the cotton fibers provide a certain grip.

Mako satin cover is known for its temperature-regulating properties. It is breathable and moisture-regulating, which means that it has a cooling effect in summer and stores heat in winter. Therefore, Mako satin bed linen is suitable for both warm and cooler nights.

Is Mako satin comfortable?
Mako satin is very comfortable on the skin because it is made from fine, long-staple cotton fibers. The smooth, silky texture and breathable properties of Mako satin ensure a comfortable sleeping environment.

Conclusion:
Mako satin cover is a luxurious and comfortable option for anyone who prefers a smooth, silky and breathable cover. It is suitable for both summer and winter nights and offers a pleasant sleeping environment.
